

Most hurricane-related fatalities result from drowning, and motorists are urged to not drive on flooded roadways. Earlier in the week it looked like we would need additional assistance, but now we are in the position to offer extra crews to help others. With the storm and primary danger of outages now passed, we are releasing crews to help restore power to the harder hit regions of our state. We only experienced scattered outages which we were able to respond to and restore quickly. – It looks like we have been truly blessed as the brunt of Hurricane Florence has seemingly missed our area. Crews are working as safely and quickly as possible to restore power. Update: This outage was caused by a fallen tree on the lines which took down some spans of wire. Crews have been dispatched and are assessing the damage. – We are aware of the outage southeast of Roxboro. On Monday, Piedmont Electric’s Outage Restoration Team heads to Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative. – With the storm and primary danger of outages now passed in our area, we released crews to Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperation on the coast to assist with their power restoration efforts. Rest assured, we will still have crews stationed here to respond to any additional outages should they occur. Piedmont Electric lineman, Andy Dawson and Kevin Sneed, assist the NC Army National Guard in the wake of Hurricane Florence. Because of their efforts, they were able to continue their mission delivering food and supplies to all the first responders in the area. Two of our lineman, Andy and Kevin, helped recover a military vehicle that got stuck trying to deliver supplies to a fire department.

Today, we received this photo thanking our lineman for helping to restore power and supporting our military. Since Monday, our crews have been assisting Carteret-Craven Electric Co-op on the coast with power restoration. Remaining outages are concentrated in the hardest-hit areas of coastal and southeastern North Carolina. Cooperative outages statewide have now dropped to about 38,000, down from a historic high of 326,000 on Saturday. – North Carolina’s electric cooperatives continue making outage restoration progress in the wake of Hurricane Florence.
